Clean Air designed a downflow unit with table exhaust for a freeze dryers with built-in GMP particle counter for continuous monitoring.
The installation is positioned next to a freeze dryer, which is build into a wall (see picture). The installation protects the product and operator against chemical and biological contamination during loading / unloading vials into and from the freeze dryer.
The installation looks a lot like a Class II biological safety cabinet, the difference is the exhaust table on castors. Major benefit is, in case vials are broken during the freeze drying process, that the exhaust table can be moved aside and the freeze dryer can be cleaned easily. Also the window and light hood of the downflow unit can be fully opened.
The principle of the installation is originally designed for a hospital pharmacie in combination with a freeze dryer, but also can be applied to other applications and/or equipment.
By the way, did you know Clean Air offers Telstar freeze dryers?
